Electrical selections: think about how you'll use each room

Updated: 7 days ago
It's easy to look at an electrical plan and see a page of symbols. We like to talk through how you'll actually use the rooms. Where will the bed go? Where do you charge your phone? What needs to stay plugged in on the kitchen bench?
These are the little things you notice once you're living in the home. They're worth talking through with us and the electrician before the walls close up.

Start with your furniture
A power point can look fine on the plan and end up behind a bedhead or cabinet. Bring your furniture layout, even if it's still a rough idea, so we can check the positions together.
Think about the television, your desk, bedside lights and where you'd like to use a vacuum. Let us know what matters to you, and the electrician can confirm how it can be done.
Tell us about the appliances and fittings
Appliance models matter. So do pendant lights, cabinetry and any equipment you're planning outside. We need that information early enough for the right trades to check the requirements.
Data points need a bit of thought too. Tell us where you'll work, where the television will sit and what you have in mind for internet coverage, so we can discuss the cabling with the electrical team.
Make sure the changes reach the drawings
Once we've agreed on a change, it needs to be reflected in the current plan and any relevant selection documents. The electrician and the rest of the team need to be working from the same information.
If there's an added cost or a credit, we'll work through that with you and document it before the changed work proceeds. You should know what's included and what you're being asked to approve.
Bring your ideas and questions to the electrical review. We'd much rather spend a bit more time on the details then than have you wishing we'd talked about them after you've moved in.
